Sales Engineer, Banking
Fireblocks
Location: Zürich

Fireblocks is the company bringing global finance onchain. Backed by over $1 billion in capital, we are the premier digital asset infrastructure provider trusted by thousands of industry-defining financial institutions, including banks, payment providers, fintechs, and global corporates such as BNY Mellon, BNP Paribas, ANZ Bank, Western Union, Stripe, and Revolut. Built for institutional scale and security, our enterprise-grade platform and network have powered over $14 trillion in digital asset transfers worldwide.

About the Role

The Sales Engineer, Banking is a technically credible, commercially aware member of the EMEA SE team, responsible for the full technical sales cycle across banking opportunities in Western and Central Europe.

This is not a generalist SE role. You will be expected to engage deeply with treasury operations leads, custody technologists, CISOs, and risk committees inside Tier 1 and Tier 2 banks. You will need to understand how institutional banking technology works — core banking platforms, custody and settlement infrastructure, ISO 20022 and SWIFT messaging, and post-trade workflows — and be able to position Fireblocks clearly within that context. You will work closely with Banking-aligned Sales Directors across your region, taking primary responsibility for technical qualification, PoC delivery, RFP responses, and solution design from first engagement through to onboarding handoff.

What You'll Do

Technical Pre-Sales

Lead technical qualification for banking opportunities, distinguishing genuine digital asset programmes from exploratory noise

Deliver tailored product demonstrations to technical and executive audiences across custody, settlement, treasury, and compliance use cases

Scope, design, and deliver Proofs of Concept in bank environments — including navigating infosec review, sandbox provisioning, and API integration testing

Produce and own RFP, RFI, and DDQ responses for banking prospects, maintaining accuracy against Fireblocks' external security and compliance attestations

Present Fireblocks' security architecture to CISOs, CROs, risk committees, and product and business line leads with appropriate institutional credibility

Solution Design & Client Engagement

Translate institutional banking requirements — custody flows, settlement logic, treasury management, regulatory reporting — into Fireblocks solution architectures

Engage directly with bank technology teams on API integration patterns, core banking middleware, and operational workflow design

Co-develop technical account plans with Sales Directors, identifying the path from initial engagement to production deployment

Contribute to deal strategy on competitive situations, particularly against technology-first custody competitors

Cross-Functional Contribution

Act as the voice of the banking client in internal product and roadmap discussions

Contribute reusable technical content — solution briefs, reference architectures, PoC templates — that scale across the Banking vertical

Support onboarding handoff to Professional Services, ensuring continuity from sales into delivery

Participate in the EMEA SE enablement programme, contributing to banking-specific sessions and peer knowledge transfer

What You'll Bring

3–8 years in a pre-sales, solutions engineering, or technical consulting role, selling into or supporting Tier 1 or Tier 2 banks, financial market infrastructure, or capital markets firms

Direct experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise sales cycles in regulated financial institutions

Demonstrable track record of scoping and delivering PoCs or technical pilots in bank environments

Experience authoring RFP/RFI responses and engaging with bank procurement, legal, and infosec processes

Exposure to digital asset, tokenisation, or blockchain initiatives whether from a technology vendor, infrastructure provider, or within a bank's innovation function

Technical Knowledge

Working understanding of institutional banking architecture: core banking platforms (Temenos, Finastra, Murex, Calypso or similar), custody infrastructure, or post-trade settlement systems

Familiarity with financial messaging standards: ISO 20022, SWIFT MT/MX, or equivalent settlement and payment protocols

Comfort with API-led integration patterns; able to engage credibly in technical discussions with bank engineering and middleware teams

Understanding of cryptographic key management concepts, hardware security modules, or MPC/TSS architecture (formal training provided)

Awareness of MiCA, DORA, or equivalent EMEA regulatory requirements as they affect digital asset operations in banks

Skills & Attributes

Credible with senior institutional stakeholders CISO, CTO, Head of Digital Assets, treasury operations leads, and product and business line owners — not only with technical teams

Structured, precise communicator: able to write clearly, present confidently, and adapt register for technical and non-technical audiences

Commercially aware: understands deal economics, qualification discipline, and what constitutes productive SE engagement

Self-directed and organised, capable of running multiple active opportunities simultaneously without close supervision

A European language an advantage

Director of Operations, Payments EMEA

Role Overview

Fireblocks Liechtenstein Ltd. is a payment institution being established to provide Account Information Services (AIS) and Payment Initiation Services (PIS) to institutional clients across the European Economic Area, under authorisation from the Liechtenstein Financial Market Authority (FMA).

The Director of Operations is a controlling-function role and a member of the Company’s executive management. The role holds primary day-to-day accountability for the sound operation of the licensed entity, acts as the principal local point of contact with the FMA, and provides the substance and operational governance that underpin the Company’s authorisation.

The role has a defined and focused scope: the Company provides AIS and PIS services, with its technology platform operated by an intra-group technology provider. The Director of Operations is responsible for governing that arrangement and ensuring the entity operates soundly, rather than for building or running technology directly. The role may also support the Fireblocks group’s wider regulated activities where relevant.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory and Governance

Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact with the FMA for operational matters, managing the ongoing supervisory relationship.

Ensure the Company operates at all times within the scope and conditions of its authorisation.

Own the Company’s regulatory reporting obligations and coordinate the annual statutory and regulatory audit.

Support the Board and executive management in discharging their governance responsibilities, including preparation and follow-through on Board matters.

Operational Oversight

Hold day-to-day accountability for the operational delivery of the Company’s AIS and PIS services.

Oversee the outsourcing arrangement with the technology provider, including monitoring of service levels, quarterly service reviews, and management of the outsourcing register and sub-outsourcing controls.

Own the Company’s business continuity and incident management framework, acting as the escalation and decision point in the event of a material disruption.

Oversee the segregated operational processes that support the Company’s regulatory perimeter, including customer onboarding, support routing, and data governance in coordination with the Risk & Compliance function.

Risk and Control

Work closely with the Risk & Compliance function to ensure an effective control environment across AML/CFT, operational, ICT, and outsourcing risk.

Ensure the Company meets its obligations under applicable Liechtenstein and EEA regulation, including PSD2/ZDG and, as applicable, DORA.

Oversee the maintenance of the Company’s risk register and the periodic and permanent control framework.

Commercial and Financial Governance

Oversee the commercial and financial governance of the entity, including the intra-group service arrangements, in coordination with group finance.

Provide operational sign-off on customer onboarding to the entity, ensuring the dual-entity contracting process is completed and customers are correctly provisioned.

Support the Fireblocks group’s wider regulated activities where relevant, bringing operational and regulatory experience to bear.

Candidate Profile

Proven operational leadership experience within a regulated financial institution — a payment institution, e-money institution, bank, or crypto-asset service provider.

Experience of the Liechtenstein or wider EEA regulatory environment, ideally including prior involvement in a licence application and ongoing regulator engagement.

A payments background, with an understanding of open banking (AIS/PIS), payment operations, and the associated regulatory obligations.

Familiarity with outsourcing governance and the operation of a licensed entity that relies on an intra-group or third-party technology provider.

Exposure to the digital asset sector is an advantage.

Attributes

The standing and seniority to act credibly as a controlling function before the FMA.

Sound judgement, personal accountability, and the ability to operate as the responsible individual for a licensed entity.

Able to work effectively with a distributed group, including colleagues in other time zones.

Fit and proper for a controlling-function role, satisfying the FMA’s suitability assessment.

Location and Presence

The role does not require full-time residence in Liechtenstein. The successful candidate may be resident in Liechtenstein or a neighbouring jurisdiction (Switzerland). The candidate must be willing to travel to Liechtenstein as required and to accommodate periodic working hours aligned with a US-headquartered group.

For employees hired to work from the EU, Fireblocks is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range is specific to Switzerland and takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are reviewed when making a hiring decision, such as years of experience, skills, and other business needs. It is not typical for a candidate to be hired at or near the top of the pay range and each compensation decision is dependent on each individual case. A reasonable base salary range estimate for this position is €150,000 – €205,000. The base salary is one component of the total compensation package, which for some roles may include a target bonus, a very competitive equity grant, and very generous benefits.

While we believe competitive compensation is a critical aspect of your decision to join us, we do hope you also spend time considering why our mission and culture are right for you. We are creating something transformational here, and we hope you are as excited about the future as we are.

This is a hands-on engineering position spanning internal applications, integrations, shared AI platform components, evaluation tooling, observability, and developer workflows — contributing to both new features and existing production systems.
Ideal candidates are strong technical students who thrive on ambiguity, pick up new technologies quickly, and take ownership of code quality. While AI-assisted development tools are used, the intern is expected to apply solid engineering judgment, test rigorously, and deliver secure, maintainable work.

Position Responsibilities

Build and improve internal applications, backend services, APIs, and integrations that bring AI capabilities into firm workflows.

Contribute to shared AI platform capabilities, such as gateway services, access and identity integrations, monitoring, observability, and support tooling.

Help evaluate AI models, tools, and internal AI applications; contribute to practical evaluation methods, benchmarks, monitoring, and feedback loops.

Identify recurring needs and generalizable patterns in work across teams, then help turn them into reusable components, standards, or automation rather than one-off solutions.

Use AI-assisted development tools effectively while maintaining ownership of code quality, correctness, security, reliability, and maintainability.

Support and improve existing systems by investigating issues, improving documentation, and helping make services easier to operate and support.

Qualifications & Desired Skills

Pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Quantitative Finance

Demonstrated software-development experience through coursework, internships, personal projects, open-source work, or similar practical experience.

Proficiency in at least one programming language and the ability and interest to learn the languages, frameworks, and tools required for the work.

Strong software-engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, debugging, testing, version control, and clear code design.

Interest in building backend services, APIs, internal applications, integrations, or developer/infrastructure tooling.

Sound problem-solving skills and good judgment about trade-offs among speed, quality, reliability, and maintainability.

Comfort working in a changing environment, clarifying ambiguous requirements, and iterating constructively with stakeholders.

Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Interest in practical AI systems and AI-enabled development. Prior experience with a particular AI platform, programming language, or cloud technology is welcome but not required.

Interest in financial markets or investment management is a plus, but is not required.
